We’ve been to Bursa twice and it’s become one of our favourite places in Turkey to visit. Only a couple of hours’ ferry ride from Istanbul, Bursa was the first capital of the Ottoman Empire and is now Turkey’s fourth most populous city. Any list of the best places to go in Turkey simply has to start with Istanbul. If you’ve been a long-time reader on our small corner of the internet, then you will know that we love Turkey. Perhaps the first clue is that we decided to settle down here and have been living in Istanbul for the last four years. (Oh, and maybe the numerous blog posts we write about Turkey give something away too).
Istanbul Tours
The white travertine terraces filled with mineral-rich waters are a highlight of any Türkiye bucket list. Soaking in these pools offers relaxation while surrounded by stunning natural beauty. While it’s OK to wear sheer floaty dresses at upmarket beach resorts or many city centers, people living inland and in the east of the country may tend to dress more conservatively. Pay attention to what locals wear and if you’re a woman, consider carrying a scarf in your bag. That way you can easily cover up if you’re feeling underdressed and you’ll always be mosque ready. The panoramic views from the cliff ridges to the hill crests in the magnificent rock valleys are a delight.
The sole alternative to this is the high-speed line operating between Istanbul, Eskisehir, and Ankara. We recommend buying tickets in advance, particularly if you seek to take the overnight trip on the Eastern Express, a spectacular scenery journey between Ankara and Kars. Turkish State Railway Viaggi in Turchia operates all rail lines, including rail services within the Izmir region and trains to Adana and Konya. You should think about your need to travel to this country, territory or region based on family or business requirements, knowledge of or familiarity with the region, and other factors.
City Of Safranbolu
Stays are all-inclusive – the hotel has a restaurant and a snack bar and guests can also enjoy a drink at the hotel’s wood panelled bar. In the spring, summer and autumn visitors flock to Uludağ to enjoy picnics by the lakes, to fish or to follow one of the many hiking trails around the park. All of the trails offer spectacular views of the surrounding landscape so don’t skip this if you visit during these seasons. The village is amazingly well preserved – you can wander through the narrow cobbled streets, and admire the traditional Ottoman houses, ancient mosques and bathhouses.
